Product Features

• Flavour profile: 'Sunset' offers a sweet, aromatic flavour and crisp texture similar to 'Cox’s Orange Pippin' but is significantly easier to grow due to high disease resistance.
• Harvest: Produces heavy crops of attractive golden fruits with an orange flush, ready for harvesting in late September to October.
• Pollination: A self-fertile variety that produces fruit without a pollination partner, making it an excellent choice for gardens with space for only one tree.

Planting and Care

• Site requirements: Thrives in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil; water established trees deeply during dry spells and whilst fruit is developing.
• Container growing: Select a container with a minimum diameter of 45-50cm (approx. 30-40 litres) and use a soil-based compost like John Innes No. 3 to provide stability and nutrient retention.
• Planting method: Soak roots for 2 hours prior to planting; spread roots out in the hole or pot, backfill ensuring the graft union sits above the soil line, firm in well, and water thoroughly.
• Training and form: Supplied as a 3ft bare root tree grafted onto a dwarfing rootstock to restrict vigour, ensuring the tree remains compact and suitable for patio cultivation.
